Leadership

Matt West, Founder/CEO

Matt West is the Founder and CEO of Intangibles, LLC. Matt was born in Los Angeles and graduated from Long Beach State University with a degree in Political Science. He was a professional baseball player for the Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners organizations from 1981-1988.

Following the 1988 season, Matt retired as a player and went on to coach and manage in the Atlanta Braves minor league system from 1989 to 1995, including a two-year stint as manager of the Durham Bulls. Matt retired from coaching in 1996, joining Capitol Broadcasting Company as a full-time member of its sales team. He ran the sales and marketing efforts for the Durham Bulls from 1997 to 2000.

Matt joined the Carolina Hurricanes in February 2001, and as Vice President of Business Operations, Matt served on the Executive Committee for the Carolina Hurricanes and Gale Force Holdings, LLC. Matt oversaw all sales, marketing, promotion, broadcasting and website disciplines for the Hurricanes, played an instrumental role in the All Star Ticket Crusade, and the negotiation of the 20-year, $80 million naming rights partnership with RBC Centura Bank.

Matt has served on the board for the Museum of Life and Science, YMCA of Greater Durham, the Healing Place of Wake County and the First Tee of Triangle, and has provided marketing and fundraising support for Leadership Triangle, Triangle United Way, the Boy Scouts and the Miracle League.

Matt and his wife Juliana live in Pinehurst, North Carolina, with their three daughters, Grace, Mary Margaret and Helen.

Mike Hurley, President

Mike Hurley joined Intangibles, LLC in April, 2010 after more than 20 years in the sports marketing and media industries. He has significant experience in negotiating and activating sponsorships as well as multi-media rights agreements.

Most recently, Mike was Director of Broadcasting and Corporate Sales for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League, where he was responsible for all corporate sponsorships, suite sales and broadcasting. During his tenure, the team achieved both the largest single sponsorship commitment and promotional giveaway in franchise history. During this period, the team was also recognized by both Turnkey Sports and ESPN for enjoying some of the highest sponsor perception ratings in all of major league sports.

Prior to his work with the Hurricanes, Mike was general manager for Capitol Sports, a leading producer and distributor of multimedia sports programming. He has also managed sales organizations representing properties in the NFL, NHL, NASCAR, The ACC, The Big East and Minor League Baseball. He has served as a panelist for the National Association of Broadcasters, the NHL and the NFL Radio Rightsholders, and has been featured in IEG Sponsorship Report, Sports Business Journal and Team Marketing Report.

Mike has served as Chairman of the CIAA Sponsorship Committee and is a former Vice President of the North Carolina West Point Parents Association.

Mike lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife Pamm. They have three adult children: Mikaela and Caitlin who still live in the Triangle, while Adam, a captain in the US Army, is stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
